| Promote principles of
social justice and their realisation through
practical projects |

The Peter Pillai Social Institute (PPSI) was
formally incorporated on 29th January 1979
the principal promoter being Fr. Tissa
Balasuriya OMI (while seven co-founders were
signatories to the Memorandum & Articles of
Association) to continue the memory and
social justice work initiated by Fr. Peter
A. Pillai OMI., MA, MSc., PhD, DD.
Fr. Peter Pillai, was a former student of
St. Benedict’s College Kotahena (1914-1918),
teacher at St. Peter’s College,
Bambalapitiya (1937-1940), Rector of St.
Joseph’s College, Colombo (1940-1961),
Warden of Aquinas Hall (Catholic Students’
Hostel of the University of Ceylon) and
founder and first Rector of Aquinas
University College, Colombo (1954-1964).
According to its Memorandum of Association,
the main objective of the Peter Pillai
Social Institute is to “promote principles
of social justice and their realisation
through practical projects”.

- To engage in action to promote
Social Justice;
- To carry on, collaborate in and
promote studies and action relating to
social justice.
- To encourage study of, research and
investigation into the development of
Social Justice in Sri Lanka;
- To submit reports and
recommendations to Government and other
authorities regarding policies for the
development of Social Justice in Sri
Lanka;
- To direct, to carry out, surveys and
studies on Social Justice in any country
or any part of the world.

The purpose of PPSI Scholarships, is to
provide scholarships for gifted and needy
students, to attend
to help them to achieve their potential
as contributing members of society.

Peter Pillai Social Institute has now
entered into formal Memorandum of
Understandings (MOUs) with the Principal’s
of St. Joseph’s College Colombo, St. Peter’s
College Bambalapitiya, St. Benedict’s
College Kotahena, St Bridget’s Collegiate
Colombo, Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya,
and Good Shepherd Convent Kotahena, to provide scholarships for
needy and gifted students entering into the
G.C.E. Advance Level classes at these
schools.
